Sun Valley’s 83rd Ski Season is a Wrap
The Easter Bunny turned out with chickens galore.
Monday, April 22, 2019

The sun didn’t shine as brightly as it could’ve. But skiers and boarders added their own splash of color to the slopes of Baldy on Easter Sunday as they bid adieu to the 2018-19 season.

The season lasted 151 days—longer than is typical, thanks to Thanksgiving coming early on Nov. 22 and a season that ran through April 21, rather than the second weekend of April as is sometimes the case.

The Smurfs made their way out of their 1980s cartoon series to the top of Bald Mountain.

And, in between, Sun Valley Resort got Feburied, with a record 136 inches of snow falling during the 28 days of February. That’s the most in one month since Sun Valley began keeping records during the Vietnam War era.

As a result, the runs on Sunday were amply covered and the snow soft but not too soft, thanks to early morning temperatures in the 40s.

People celebrated with lavish spreads on the Warm Springs patio. And lift attendants like John Abell and Gary Hino hung up their jackets to head to the Sun Valley pond where they will spend the summer  shepherding Sun Valley visitors into pontoon boats.

Now the countdown begins: Just 212 days until the next season.

Even those frequenting the new Konditorei Warm Springs did so with pizzazz.

Unfortunately for powder hounds, Thanksgiving Day--traditionally the opener for Sun Valley Resort-- comes late on Nov. 28 next year.

But better late than never!

Another day at the office on Bald Mountain.

Superheroes and golden girls were clearly in evidence.
