Give the Wood River Valley a Clean Sweep on Saturday.

The Environmental Resource Center is soliciting volunteers to join together for a couple hours on Saturday, May 4, to pick up trash along streets and in city parks in Ketchum, Sun Valley, Hailey and Bellevue.

A complimentary breakfast of donuts, muffins and coffee will kick things off at 9 a.m. at three meeting sites. Participants will then fan out to a location of their choice in search of litter.

They’ll meet back at 11:30 a.m. to celebrate their good works with a free lunch.

KB’s will provide burritos for Ketchum and Hailey participants while Mahoney’s Bar and Grill and Atkinsons’ Market will provide lunch for Bellevue participants.

There will be prizes for teams and individuals, including prizes for the number of bags collected, best costume and weirdest item.

There will also be a business competition. Local businesses will get one point for each member of their team, one point for each member that is dressed up and one point for each full bag of trash picked up. The winning business will be announced on Wednesday, May 8.

Clean Sweep will also incorporate Blaine County’s Adopt-a-Road program with the Girls on the Run adoption and cleanup of Quigley Road.

Clean Sweep was started 25 years ago in 1994. It is the ERC’s longest running program and is designed to spruce up the valley in preparation for the onslaught of summer visitors to Sun Valley.

Participants should meet at:

  • The ERC office at 471 Washington Ave. in Ketchum
  • KB’s at 121 N. Main St. in Hailey
  • Memorial Park between Cedar and Elm streets in Bellevue.
