POWER Engineers, Inc. has named award-winning transmission line expert Ron Carrington as chairman of its board of directors.
Carrington, POWER’s power delivery project management business unit director, will succeed current board chairman and former CEO Jack Hand, who stepped down as CEO in 2016.
Carrington joined POWER in 1990 and has served on the board since 2012.
“Ron has been a strong and steady leader at POWER for more than two decades,” said Bret Moffett, POWER board president and CEO. “He’s earned incredible respect in the industry, and our board will benefit greatly from his vision and his experience.”
Carrington is known for his finesse in managing large capital-expenditure programs and portfolios for some of the largest utilities in the United States. In 2017 he was given the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Gene Wilhoite Award for his contributions to the advancement of transmission line engineering.
He has served with the society on a committee establishing standards and codes for transmission, distribution and substation structural designs and has authored numerous papers on those subjects.
And he helped create POWER Engineers’ Power Delivery Design Conference, which attracts utility participants from around the world to Sun Valley Resort.
He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Carrington lives in Fort Collins, Colo.—close to POWER’s Denver office. He’ll remain there due to his continuing work as a senior project manager but will travel to Boise, Hailey and other offices as necessary.
Carrington said he was humbled to take the reins from Jack Hand, who will remain on POWER’s board to assist with the leadership transition.
“Jack is an innovative and discerning leader,” he said. “He’s been instrumental in guiding our company’s development from a small regional firm to a global organization.”
