He cracks out James Brown dance moves as horns crank in the background.
His name is Joshua Strauther, but he’s known as Joshy Soul…Joshy Soul and the Cool, that is.
Joshy Soul and the Cool will rock the Argyros Performing Arts Center in Ketchum with their soulful struts and gospel, funk and disco-influenced vibe at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 8.
The Cool part involves a seven-piece band boasting a three-piece horn section, guitars, bass, drums and keyboards.
The group, which calls Salt Lake City home, performed at Treefort in Boise a month ago. The group will hit the stage at the Idaho Botanical Garden in Boise tonight—ahead of their performance here.
They will be paired up with the local band Lounge on fire.
Soul was born in Los Angeles but headed east to Utah for school where he took music lessons at the University of Utah. There he directed music for a campus ministry program, his interest in gospel inspired by his mother, a gospel organist.
He began writing his own music, influenced by the likes of little Richard, Otis Redding and Ray Charles, and then he formed a band of his school and music friends to create the rich robust sound he desired.
Tickets for those 25 and under are just $10. Tickets for all others are $20 when purchased in advanced and $25 at the door.
Tickets are available at www.theargyros.org.
