The Wood River Farmers Market will open with a splash on Tuesday in a new location.
The 2019 version of the Farmers Market will be in the Lower River Run parking lot at Sun Valley Resort from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 11. It will continue on Tuesdays into October.
There will be a few handicapped parking spaces and organizers plan to have a pick-up lane, as well, said Sara Berman.
Opening day will feature a variety of family-fun activities, including face painting, said Stacy Whitman, co-director of the Local Food Alliance.
The YMCA’s greenhouse program will offer kids planting activities, and the ERC will have a Recycling Challenge game. Drew Harrison will perform live music. And everyone who makes a purchase will be entered into a raffle featuring prizes from market vendors.
Many favorite vendors will be returning, including Waterwheel Gardens from Emmett, King’s Crown Organics from the Snake River and Shooting Star from Hailey. Also, Berman’s own Squash Blossom Farm, which is located in Bellevue.
“This year we’re planting different colored cherry tomatoes that we hope to sell later in the summer,” Berman said. “Cherry tomatoes are a summer favorite of so many people, including myself.”
Berman added there also will be craft vendors and a number of new vendors, including pies from Piedaho and Itty Bitty Farm, which will provide an array of veggies.
The Farmers Market in Hailey will start up on Thursday, June 13. It will be held on the empty lot on Main Street near Sturtevant’s from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursdays.
