Just when you thought you’d gotten the hang of entering the Community Library through the children’s door….
Oops. You’ve got to change your ways again.
The door on the west side of the library will be closed to the public again beginning Monday, July 1, as workers press forward on the plaza outside.
Meanwhile, the main entryway on the Spruce Street side will reopen with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday, July 1. Refreshments will be served.
“Our grand opening will still be in November, but we wanted to show off the renovations that have been completed to date,” said Library Director Jenny Emery Davidson.
The library is in the midst of a two-year renovation to address the structural integrity of the building while giving it a makeover with a larger lecture hall, a climate-controlled history vault and cubbyholes for teenagers to work.
The many renovations have kept users guessing as they’ve wandered through a myriad of different mazes that have allowed workers to work while keeping the library open.
Workers reopened the reimagined reference room this week with small rooms featuring flat screens for those who want to watch one of the library’s many videos, as well as secluded booths to work in along the 4th Street side. There’s even a pull-up door in the floor allowing access to storage space underneath.
“The renovations that have been completed to date are quite spectacular,” said Molly! Goodyear, the communications associate at the library.
IT’S SUDDENLY SUNDAY!
The Community Library will stage its second Suddenly Sunday! Today—June 30. The library will be open from noon to 5 p.m. as an opportunity for families and others to access the services on Sunday.
