He spent the last five years as director of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s Coach & Livestock Department.
Now Paul Bennett is ready to take the reins at Swiftsure Ranch south of Bellevue.
A native of England, Bennett will assume his new role on Monday, Sept. 16—after he’s had the chance to move across the country from Williamsburg, Va., with his wife Suzanne, their two dogs and a horse.
Bennett has spent nearly three decades as a director of ranches, farms and equine facilities.
His expertise in agriculture, animal-powered transportation and heritage livestock breeds distinguished him among a field of talented candidates, as did his record of leadership, team building, financial stewardship and community outreach.
He impressed Swiftsure board members and staff with his horsemanship and the way he interacts with humans, as well.
At Colonial Williamsburg, he was responsible for managing 30 horses, 23 employees and dozens of volunteers. He carried out fundraising, donor stewardship, public relations, budget oversight and program development responsibilities, as well.
Prior to that, he served four years as ranch manager at the Morris Ranch and Carriage House in Wharton, Texas.
“I am very excited to have his expertise at the ranch and for the opportunity to work with him and continue making Swiftsure a magical place,” said Molly Boomer, who has been serving as interim director.
Swiftsure provides equine therapy for children and adults with physical, emotional and cognitive disabilities. Fall lessons begin October 14, and the colorful Blazing Pumpkins Festival returns oct. 19.
