The plight of Idaho’s dwindling salmon runs has not been lost on the killer whales that reside along the Pacific Coast.
The orcas need a million chinook salmon a year to feed on. And, without them, they’re starving to death.
The solution according to whale scientist Ken Balcomb is to get rid of four fish-killing dams 500 miles away on what was once the largest chinook producing river on earth.
Steven Hawley and Michael Peterson tell the story in their film “Dammed to Extinction.” And Ketchum’s Community Library will hold a special screening of “Dammed to Extinction” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3.
The film’s producers Steven Hawley and Michael Peterson will field questions and answers following the screening.
The screening is presented in collaboration with Advocates for the West, a Boise-based nonprofit environmental law firm.
