It takes a 100-pound child 44 hours of walking to burn off the calories in the average amount of candy collected on Halloween, according to a report by UPI.
That’s three cups of sugar or 169 sugar cubes.
Wood River Valley children got off to a good start as they rambled up and down Hailey’s streets for two hours on Halloween Day, collecting candy from the likes of Rachel Lee’s Capt. Spaulding outside Jane’s Artifacts and Vicki Ebert, who has been handing out candy outside Luke’s Pharmacy for seven years.
“I’m a good witch, a giving witch,” she said.
Americans buy 90 million pounds of chocolate and enough candy corn to circle the earth 4.25 times, according to Mental Floss.
And it won’t be long before manufacturers start gearing up for next year’s Halloween.
Hershey’s begins producing Halloween candy six months in advance to ensure the candy makes it into stores by the end of summer.
