Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation’s Wild Game Dinner Celebrates Young Athletes

The year was 1976. Jimmy Carter defeated Gerald Ford, becoming the first candidate from the Deep South to win the presidency since the Civil War. Steve Jobs had just started Apple Computer.

Elton John was exhorting us, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.” And “Rocky” was giving a boost to underdogs everywhere, while “All the President’s Men” was chronicling a dark period of American history.

It was 43 years ago that the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation held its first Wild Game Dinner and fundraiser, with parents of young skiers contributing elk they’d bagged in the hills surrounding Sun Valley.

The SVSEF will revisit that tradition on Friday, Nov. 15, with its gala fundraiser in the Limelight Room at Sun Valley Resort.

The western-themed evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with signature cocktails from Warfield Distillery & Brewery, a Schuss Golden Ale brewed by SVSEF and Warfield and an opportunity to bid on silent auction items.

Guests will enjoy a full meal prepared by Sun Valley Resort, followed by dancing to tunes provided by DJ SweetPea.

Just 400 tickets will be sold.

Tickets are $175, with proceeds from the event supporting local SVSEF athletes, enabling any child wishing to participate in snowsports a chance to do so.

SVSEF subsidizes 40 percent of program costs and is able to provide more than $300,000 in need- and merit-based financial aid to qualified athletes because of such events as the Wild Game Dinner.
