If an evening out at the movies is the traditional part of your Thanksgiving holiday, you’re in for a treat this Thanksgiving.

Magic Lantern Cinemas in Ketchum is screening “The Irishman,” which is of keen interest to Sun Valley residents since it is based on a book by Ketchum attorney Charles Brandt.

Brandt’s book “I Heard You Paint Houses” was adapted to the movie directed by Martin Scorsese starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. And it’s been getting great reviews.

“The Irishman” introduces viewers to organized crime’s rivalries and connection to mainstream politics.

The movie will be screened at 6:30 tonight—Thursday, Nov. 28. It will screen at 4:30 p.m. daily through Thursday, Dec. 12.

The movie is an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of Frank Sheeran, a hit man who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century. He claimed responsibility for the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa--long one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history.

Brandt said he was introduced to Jerry Chamales, who bought an option on the film, by none other than Cheryl Thomas at Ketchum’s Chapter One bookstore.

“In June of 2007 De Niro’s office called us for the rights. Since then, all my friends and neighbors have provided enormous support and friendship as we waited patiently for this day,” he said.

Chapter One Books will have signed copies of “I Heard You Paint Houses” at the screening.
