An art therapy program designed especially for adults experiencing changes in their cognitive and sensorimotor abilities will start up again Jan. 21 at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts.
The museum-based program, “Stepping out of the Frame,” will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. most Tuesdays between Jan. 21 and May 12.
Each week participants will explore The Center’s current BIG IDEA project through therapeutic art experiences.
Activities will be facilitated by a professional art therapist, designed to foster self-esteem and self-awareness, cultivate emotional resilience, enhance social skills and reduce and resolve internal and external conflicts.
“It’s a beautiful thing to witness participants taking joy and pride in their work, realizing their own ability to express through art,” said Jordyn Dooley, art therapist and enrichment educator at the Center. “I was fortunate to witness many such moments throughout the summer, with participants feeling empowered and stimulated by their capacity to create and learn.”
Dooley has a Master of Science degree in art therapy from Florida State University and has a registered art therapist’s provisional license.
The program is free but registration is required. Participants should commit to all the sessions to gain the maximum educational and therapeutic benefit.
