The Dalai Lama calls himself “one-half Buddhist monk, the other half—scientist.”

Learn about his lifelong journey into the world of science and technology in “The Dalai Lama: Scientist,” which will be screened at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at the Argyros Performing Arts Center.

The film, which uses never before-seen footage, tells a very human story of the Dalai Lama that no one knows.

“This is truly a fascinating film that dives deep into the Dalai Lama’s keen interest in science. It also covers the mutual impact he has had on world-class scientists,” said Ryan Redman, whose Flourish Foundation is presenting the film.

Tickets are $20, available at www.theargyros.org. All proceeds benefit the Flourish Foundation, which presents mindfulness classes to students throughout the Wood River Valley.

The director is Dawn Gifford Engle, who has been nominated 16 times for the Nobel Peace Prize. She has directed such award-winning documentary films as “Children of the Light.” Executive producer is Dawn’s husband Ivan Suvanjieff, a former Detroit punk rock musician who created the PeaceJam program and also has been nominated 16 times for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Cinematographer Dave Wruck has received five Emmy Awards and editor Zabe Holloway edited the documentary film “2012: The True Mayan Prophecy.”
