A wildland fire exacerbated by dry, windy conditions has broken out in East Fork Canyon near Hyndman View Drive. East Fork Road is closed at Highway 75 to all but residents at this time.

Craig Kristoff said it looked as if the fire was about a hundred yards off the road tearing up the hillside.

“It was a couple hundred yards long and moving pretty quick with tons of smoke billowing into the sky,” he said.

Tim Eagan watched as flames torched some big pines, as the fire raced up the ridgeline to snow still sitting on the top. The timbered hillside was engulfed in smoke.

"Holy cow!" he said. "Crazy."

Residents are being asked to stay out of the area to allow fire crews access.
