Johnny Radford Scores Again
Thursday, April 30, 2020

It seems like the basketball season was a million years away in this year of the coronavirus.

But while we were busy isolating, Wood River High School Senior Johnny Radford was named the Twin Falls Times-News large school boys basketball player of the year.

No surprise there. Radford scored 51 points in his final game and 47 in another.

The 51 points in a 78-75 district tournament win over Burley set a school record.

He not only set Wood River’s single-season scoring record with 597 points—that’s 27.1 per game--but he shot nearly 91 percent from the free throw line. He averaged 5.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.2 steals per game.

As a three-year starter he set the all-time career scoring record for his school with 1,393 points.

Radford, son of head coach John Radford, was voted player of the year by the Great Basin Conference.

“That is no small feat in a league that is stacked with good teams and future college players,” noted the Times-News.

Radford plans to play for one of the NAIA’s top programs at the College of Idaho in Caldwell.
