Health care workers at St. Luke’s Wood River took a moment to stand in solidarity with those demanding equality and justice for people of color this week.

They joined together with health care workers form other St. Luke’s hospitals throughout the state, as well as Saltzer Health, Primary Health Medical Group, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center and other health care organizations.

All gathered and paused for eight minutes and 46 seconds—the time a police officer had his knee on the neck of George Floyd in Minneapolis. It was a silent reflection of a commitment to improve the health and safety of people of color and show support for patients, colleagues, family friends and their communities.

Started by health care providers in the Treasure Valley, others quickly joined in, inspired by such moments being held at hospitals across the country.
