Test drive a new 2021 Subaru. Then test drive a dog who’d like to fit in that Subaru.
Subaru of Twin Falls is bringing its new cars to Mountain Humane for people to test drive between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.
And Subaru has given Mountain Humane a grant so it can waive adoption fees for anyone adopting one of its dogs that day. Snacks and drinks will be served and goodie bags will go home with pets who are adopted.
“We do this once a year in conjunction with the ASPCA,” said Kelly Mitchell.
The animal campus currently has 20 dogs and 30 cats and kittens in house. There’s a wide range of dogs, including a Chihuahua mix, a shepherd mix and a lab mix.
Volunteers will be parading the dogs that day to give those looking for a new companion a chance to see them out and about.
Mountain Humane is requiring appointments to adopt pets right now. Adoption counselors will schedule counseling sections every half-hour. People can schedule adoptions ahead of time by calling 208-788-4351.
Those who schedule an adoption session later in the week will also have the opportunity to get their adoption fee waived.
“We started the adoption sessions because we had to restrict access due to COVID. But that’s the national trend now,” said Kelly Mitchell. “It’s so much more successful as it provides a more meaningful conversational process. And with the extra time we can better match animals to their new owners.”
In fact, the Mountain Humane saw its biggest month for adoptions in August with 75 animals adopted.
“That gave us the chance to turn around and take more animals in more quickly,” said Mitchell.
