Fun online learning options for children through adults will be highlighted during a free Zoom talk at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18.
Librarian Lea Colvill will discuss such things as the COVID-19 Classroom, a compilation of hundreds of fun, educational links that can be helpful for parents who are homeschooling their children.
“As COVID was ramping up, Lea quickly developed a myriad of fun, on-line learning options for infants through high schoolers, as well as their parents,” said the library’s programs and engagement coordinator Kristin Fletcher. “Hailey Public Library’s incredible on-line presence now includes resources for kids and families ranging from core curricula subjects and electives to story time podcasts, from webcams of jellyfish at the Monterey Bay Aquarium to virtual field trips to the Louvre, and much more.”
Parents of preschoolers will learn about Kinder Kits, special kits Colvill created targeting math, literacy, dexterity and descriptive skills which are available for check. Colvill will also share a recently compiled resource list of tutoring spaces available in the Wood River Valley.
Colvill has worked as Hailey Public Library’s part-time children’s librarian for almost four years.
During that time, she created a self-checkout station sized for kids and helped remodel the children’s area. She recently collaborated with the Idaho Association for the Education of Young Children to implement the Ready! for Kindergarten program which prepares parents to teach their children preliteracy, reasoning and social-emotional skills.
A trained priest, Colvill became the first female priest at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Hailey nearly four years ago. She has been equally creative there, leading the community in a blessing of the vans, a blessing of the bikes and more.
She blessed the bugs at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden’s annual Bug Zoo and she often took her Pub Theology to Powerhouse restaurant where she set out her “Ask a Priest” sign. She stomped out a line of Queen’s “We Will Rock” you at the pulpit and compared the topography of Jerusalem to a Bundt cake in a geography lesson of the Bible.
Her last day as the Hailey Public Library’s children’s librarian will be November 20 when she moves on to a new position as lead pastor at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Idaho Falls.
