Rachel “Ruchie” Freier was a no-nonsense Hasidic lawyer and mother of six. But she still found time to shake up the boy’s club in her Hasidic community of New York City by creating the first all-female ambulance corps.

See what happened when this upstart all-female ambulance corps challenges the largest volunteer ambulance corps in the world when the Sun Valley Museum of Art screens “93Queen.”

The film offers a unique portrayal of empowered women who are taking matters into their own hands by subverting the patriarchy, which has steadfastly banned women from its ranks, to change their community from within.

The film will be shown at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Magic Lantern Cinemas in Ketchum. Tickets are $10 for Museum members and $12 for non-members, available at svmoa.org or by calling 208-726-9491.

It is part of the Museum’s current BIG IDEA PROJECT focusing on ways women have changed society for the good.

In addition to the film The Museum will offer two free tours of its current visual exhibition, which includes Lava Thomas’s a portrait of abolitionist Harriet Tubman and more.

The first starts at 4:30 and the second at 5:30 p.m. Thursday with each tour limited to eight participants. Face masks are required.

“We titled the exhibition Deeds Not Words, but it could also be titled Deeds AND Words,” said Curator of Visual Arts Courtney Gilbert. “One theme that runs through all of the artwork in the exhibition is that women who have worked for social justice have always relied on language—speeches, editorials, pamphlets and private conversations—along with direct action. That idea emerges in the artwork in really interesting ways.”
