Six Wood River High School dancers have been inducted as Dance Scholars in the National Honor Society for Dance Arts.

They are Seniors Britta Heaphy and Sydney Herold and Juniors Dakota Barth, Lena Gardner, Adri Meyer and Keyle Potts.

All the dancers are company members of Footlight Dance Centre and most have been dancing since they were four.

The National Dance Honor Society recognizes outstanding artistic merit, leadership and academic achievements in students studying dance at the high school level.

The requirements to be inducted are rigorous. Dancers must maintain a solid GPA on top of their dance core work. They must take master classes with guest teachers throughout the year, attend summer workshops to broaden their understanding of dance and do community service to promote dance and assist young dancers in weekly classes.

The Wood River High School chapter is one of more than 300 chapters across the United States that support excellence in the dance arts, academic achievement and leadership. Joyce Pratt is the faculty advisor, along with Hilarie Neely, director of Footlight Dance Centre.
