With summer on the horizon, volunteers are needed to help with trail and restoration work at the Howard Preserve in Bellevue.
The Wood River Land Trust is soliciting volunteers from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 30. Volunteers will rebuild the main trail in the preserve and talk about the river restoration work that has just been completed.
The mile-long stream restoration project was designed to restore the river’s natural function in an effort to reduce damage from spring flooding. The Diversion 45 headgate, built in the 1960s, was rebuilt and 8-foot banks repaired and stabilized.
Funding was provided by the City of Bellevue, Trout Unlimited, Friends of the Howard Preserve, Diversion 45 Canal District, Flood Control District No. 9 and landowners in the area.
Volunteers should meet at the parking lot at the end of Martin Lane a 4 p.m. Tuesday. Tools will be provided but volunteers should bring work gloves and water.
