Learn about the latest work to address the forest on Bald Mountain from disease and fire.
A free discussion—“Keep Bald Mountain Green: An Update on the Bald Mountain Stewardship Project”—will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at Big Wood Bread, 271 Northwood Way in Ketchum.
The discussion will be led by Zach Poff of the Ketchum Ranger District and Dani Southard of the National Forest Foundation.
Currently, work on Baldy is in full swing with dead and downed trees being removed from approximately 30 acres on the River Run side of the mountain. The project is addressing trees that have been damaged by fire, insects and disease.
As a result, the popular Roundhouse Connector Trail and, Roundhouse Lane service road have been closed this past week. And there is a short detour taking those hiking Bald Mountain Trail to the top out onto College Boulevard.
The effort to protect the mountain’s woods, recreational opportunities local economy and community viewshed is being led by the U.S. Forest Service, Sun Valley Company, Bureau of Land Management and the Bald Mountain work group.
