100 Men Who Care will meet by ZOOM at 5:30 tonight—Tuesday, Oct. 12-- to consider its quarterly donation.
The group will consider a request from I Have a Dram Foundation, which provides social-emotional support, tutoring, life skills learning and enrichment opportunities and guaranteed tuition support for low-income youth from early elementary school through high school and college.
The program’s executive director Laura Rose Lewis will outline the program and discuss its successes during tonight’s ZOOM program.
Sun Valley resident Ken Lewis founded the program in the Wood River Valley, believing that with access to resources, all children can realize their innate potential.
With the first class of students nearing the end of secondary school, the program opened up to a new class of second-graders this year. It also is providing educational support for other students in a variety of ways, including credit recovery summer programs for students who struggled in one or more classes during the regular school.
The program launched two new high school programs last year:
- A Leadership Development Program where teens learn what makes a leader and learn to develop collaborative problem solving and decision-making skills.
- A Dream Friends program, which enables students outside the core group to attend I Have a Dream Foundation workshops and study hall.
Members donate $100 a quarter to nonprofits in the wood river Valley that are selected by thoe attending meetings. The next meeting will be held in January 2022.
