He’s a screen and fiction writer and a television and film editor living in Los Angeles And this native Galway, Ireland, who deals with psychological thrillers, horror and young adult fantasies, is the newest Hemingway Writer-in-Residence.
Kevin Lavelle’s short story “Bury Me in the Garden” was awarded the inaugural Over The Edge New Writer of the Year competition in 2007. He’s currently at work on a novel and will spend two weeks at the Ernest and Mary Hemingway House as the recipient of the Writing by Writers Hemingway House residency with The Community Library.
While here, Lavelle will be working on the darkly comic novel “Sunset and Time.” It focuses on the tale of a brokenhearted empathic therapist whose grief stops time. In response, a combative hummingbird guides him through his past lives to stop a hateful geologist from turning the world’s love to stone.
On Nov. 11, Lavelle will share some of his work from his time in residency in a program called “Dispatches from a Residency at the Hemingway House.” Those who would like to attend his 6 p.m. presentation in person may register at https://www.comlib.org/event/wir-lavelle/
Proof of vaccination and a mask will be required for those attending in person.
People may also watch on Livestream by visiting https://www.comlib.org that evening.
