A couple of the nativities were handcrafted in Israel. Another boasts embroidered shepherds.
There’s a Native America manger with a tipi and a cradleboard and an Eskimo nativity with an igloo taking the place of the stable.
These are some of the nativities that are part of the 10th annual Festival of Nativities at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Carey. The festival is a community effort and includes a large Christmas village to see along with dozens of mangers.
There will be live music off and on and refreshments, as well as a chance for children to do some coloring and make Christmas ornaments. Children can avail themselves of rocks painted with Baby Jesus—a gift of the “Mystery Giver.”
The nativities, set in the dark with twinkling lights and sparkling Christmas trees, can be seen from 1 to 7 p.m. today—Saturday, Dec. 4. Admission is free.
