Take a nature walk, watch drones fly and meet the experimental cows that inhabit the Rinker Rock Creek Ranch on Saturday.
The event is the first of this summer’s Sagebrush Saturdays and will include learning activities for all age groups, a ranch tour, livestock and land management discussions and demos and a free lunch.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Rock Creek Ranch out Rock Creek Road in Croy Canyon west of Hailey. It is put on by the University of Idaho, which manages the ranch as a center of research trying to discover best practices for ranching, habitat protection, restoration and recreation.
The ranch is a unique partnership between the University of Idaho, Wood River Land Trust and The Nature Conservancy.
Camp chairs, closed toes shoes, long pants, hats and filled water bottles are recommended for those attending Sagebrush Saturday.
To get there from Hailey go west on Bullion Street as it turns into Croy Creek Road. Follow this 4.5 miles to Rock Creek Road—look for the large metal sculpture of a bull elk. Turn left and follow the road another 6.5 miles to the barn.
