Cathy Thompson looked down at the black horse tail strands she held in a Ziploc bag.
“One of my favorite things about Veterans’ Camp was the chance to brush my horse every day,” she said. “It was so relaxing, so grounding. I’m taking these home with me to remind me of it.”
Thompson was among seven veterans who just completed a week-long horse camp at Richard and Penny Weiss’s River Sage Stables south of Bellevue under the watchful eye of horse trainer Trudy Peterson and members of Higher Ground. The week culminated with a Veterans’ Rodeo, in which the veterans cut cows and raced around barrels.
