Got a kiddo who’s been chanting “Faster, faster, faster!” since watching the Winter Olympics?
Sign them up for the 68th Annual Kindercup for Kids at Dollar Mountain.
The 5B Kids Fund, formerly known as the Papoose Club, is partnering with the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation to put on the ski and snowboard race on Sunday, March 1, at Sun Valley Resort’s Dollar Mountain.
The free family-friendly event was started by the founders of the Papoose Club in 1957 and attracts up to 250 racers between the ages of 3 and 10.
Winners earn prizes and bragging rights, and all racers earn commemorative pins.
And the experience might just start your youngster on the road to the Olympics. After all, Olympic gold medal winner Picabo Street won the Kindercup when she was a tiny tyke. Other Kindercup champions include Olympic snowboarder Graham Watanabe, Langely McNeal and Wyatt Caldwell.
Participants need to sign up online at https://www.5bkidsfund.org/kindercupreg no later than 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26. There is no registration on race day.
Parents and children must complete sign-in between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. at the sign-in tables at Carol’s Dollar Mountain Lodge in order to pick up children’s race bibs. Racers using the chairlift will need a lift ticket.
Races start at 10:15 a.m. An awards ceremony will begin at about noon with awards given to the top three racers in each category.
Costumes are encouraged to make everything fun and festive.
Parking is available at the Sun Valley Pavilion parking lot; a Mountain Rides shuttle bus will run every 20 minutes. Dogs are not allowed on Dollar Mountain during operating hours.
This year’s Kindercup sponsors are Webb Nursery, Double A Dairy, Rixon + Cronin, Zenergy, Sun Valley Resort, Bigwood Golf, The Village Market, Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, DL Evans Bank, Elephants Perch, Pioneer Title, St. Lukes Wood River, 5B Real Estate, Davis Embroidery, Starbucks and Idaho Lumber.
