A film that was once ranked No. 1 in Mexico will be shown at Hailey Town Center West on Tuesday.

The free screening of the comedic Western adventure will be shown at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, as part of the Hailey Public Library’s Noche de Cine en Espanol.

The 2011 film follows Mexico’s most notorious gangster as his mother asks him to rescue his little brother--a Marine private fighting in Iraq. He picks an oddball team for the mission, including a convicted murderer who is rescued from prison and a Native American tomato farmer.

The PG-13 film will feature Spanish with English subtitles. It won an Ariel Award for Best Special Effects and it was nominated for Best Visual Effects.

Noche de Cine en Espanol is a monthly, in-person movie night for kids, teens and adults that celebrates Hispanic culture. The films feature actors and directors from Mexico and Central and South America.

“We’ve been surprised by the diverse audience attending our Noche de Cine films,” said Kristin Fletcher, HPL’s programs and engagement manager, “Audiences often include native Spanish speakers as well as dual immersion kids who want to keep up on their language skills. Other folks are attracted to Cine movies to help them learn conversational Spanish.” 

Hailey Town Center West is located in the old Copy & Print building behind the library at 116 S. River St. in Hailey.
