Celebrate Dia de los Muertos with live music, a presentation of altars and a performance by the local folkloric youth dance group.

The free celebration will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at The Hunger Coalition’s Bloom Community Food Center at 110 Honeysuckle St. in Bellevue.

The Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is observed in Mexico and other countries where celebrants employ skeletons, sugar skull molds, clay art and more to honor ancestors and others who have impacted their lives.

Individuals and local non-profits will build altars to celebrate loved ones’ lives and contributions. Mariachi Tleyotlitzin, which has performed at a variety of Hispanic Heritage festivals in the Treasure Valley  will provide live music.

The Sun Valley Museum of Art’s folkloric youth dance group led by Dirce will perform from 2 to 2:30 p.m. And there will be free helpings of Mexican hot chocolate and pan de muerto.

The event is co-hosted by The Hunger Coalition and Sun Valley Museum of Arts, which has gathered community partners to celebrate Dia de los Muertos for the past three years.

CATCH “SIGHTINGS” TONIGHT

The Sun Valley Museum of Art is offering a free tour of its “Sightings” exhibition at 5:30 tonight—Thursday, Oct. 19—at The Museum in Ketchum.

The exhibition curated by Courtney Gilbert was inspired by Idaho’s reputation as the No. 1 state per capita for UFO sightings. It considers why we look to the night skies for signs of life and how we experience phenomena we can’t explain.

The Museum is open free of charge from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
