Wanted: Your help folding a thousand Origami cranes.

The Hailey Public Library is inviting the community to help fold the cranes in honor of the holiday season amidst hopes for peace in the Ukraine and Middle East.

The library will hold a workshop to teach people how to fold Origami cranes from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Town Center West in Hailey. A second workshop will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9.

Each workshop will begin with a short lovingkindness meditation. Mary Ann Chubb, Kimber Traue, Marjolaine Renfro and Chiyo Parten will be on hand to help teach participants the art of folding. Participants will then be encouraged to take Origami paper home and fold more cranes with family and friends.

Finished cranes will be hung in the Hailey Public Library on Dec. 21---the Winter Solstice. They will remain on display for a month.

With all the grim news coming in from around the world, we are offering this hopeful project in partnership with our community,” said Kristin Fletcher, the library’s education and engagement manager. “We believe that this symbolic project will help bring peace in the world by gathering people together to complete a collective project with a deeply heartfelt message. Intention is such a powerful force. It’s a little like tossing a pebble into a pond and watching the ripples undulate outwards. We hope to send ripples of peace into this troubled world from our small valley.”
