STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

It’s been a long time coming, but the Blaine County Recreation District will finally welcome the community to enjoy a Free Ski Day on Saturday, Feb. 24.

The community can also use BCRD snowshoe trails free of charge.

The BCRD had scheduled Ski Free Days for Dec. 9 and Jan. 7 but cancelled them because of low snow.

The snow is good now, with all the trails open, including the just-opened Billy’s Bridge and Quigley Nordic, which has had a tough time this winter due to warm temperatures that sometimes turned snow to rain in Hailey.

BCRD also cancelled its Ski the Rails this year due to thin snowpack on the Wood River Trail or bike path that runs from Bellevue through Ketchum.

The final Ski Free Day will be held on Wednesday, March 27, during local schools’ Spring Break.
