STORY AND PHOTOS BY KAREN BOSSICK Last month Laughing Stock Theater presented a night of Lyrics, Laughter and Love at The Argyros, in an evening of cabaret that had supporters doubled over in laughter. Now, many of those same singers and actors are presenting William Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” a comedy full of laughter, love … jealous accusations and trickery. It’s a play that’s been described as hilarious and touching, and it’s among the most popular plays that Laughing Stock Theater Company’s Sun Valley Shakespeare in the Park has done.

Matt Musgrove, whose penchant for comedy never ceases to amaze, will play three different parts in “Much Ado About Nothing.”

In true Shakespeare fashion, the play revolves around love—love that’s challenged by jealous accusations, gossip, rumor, secrets and trickery—all couched in comedy, wit and banter. “These people never disappoint. The talent is amazing,” said Judy Steinbach, who attended the benefit at The Argyros. “I love their passion,” added Eric Steinbach. “This is the truly original theater company in our valley,” said Jackson Flynn, noting that Laughing Stock Theater and its Sun Valley Shakespeare Festival preceded all the others, including Company of Fools, St. Thomas Playhouse, The Spot and The Liberty Theatre Company. “Much Ado About Nothing” starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Friday through Sunday Aug. 7 and 9-11 at Rotary Park in Ketchum. After a few nights rest, it will make a second run Aug. 13-17.

Patsy Wygle, who let her hair down while singing “As We Stumble Along,” will play Leonata, the aunt of Beatrice and the mother of Hero, who falls in love with Claudio in “Much Ado.”

Aly Wepplo, Rachel Aanestad and Megan Mahoney took part in the Laughing Stock Theater’s benefit cabaret night, which helped provide funds to rent out Rotary Park for Sun Valley Shakespeare Festival and to bring in eight actors from New York and Los Angeles.
