STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

Learn about Proposition 1, which would return Idaho to the open primaries of the past, at Ketchum’s Community Library on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

The panel discussion will be held at 5:30 p.m.

It will feature panelists Todd Achilles, co-founder of Veterans for Idaho Voters; Trent Clark, former chair of the Idaho Republican Party, and McKay Cunningham, graduate professor and director of Graduate Initiatives at The College of Idaho.

It will be moderated by Latonia Haney Keith, dean of Graduate Studies and vice president of Strategic initiatives at The College of Idaho.

They will discuss the initiative which will also offer ranked choice voting for general elections, including congressional, gubernatorial and state and county elected offices.

If the proposition were to pass, voters would not have to vote only Republican, only Democrat or only Independent or Libertarian as they do now in Idaho’s closed primaries. They would rank their first, second, third choices among candidates.
