The Wood River Museum of History and Culture is exhibiting a “Wall of Honor” from Tuesday, Nov. 12, to Friday, Nov. 22, to recognize U.S. veterans who put their lives on the line to serve the country.

The Wall of Honor will be on display at the Wood River Museum of History and Culture at 4th and Walnut streets in Ketchum.  This is the second year the Museum has displayed a Wall of Honor.

“By looking at the service of veterans connected to the Wood River Valley, it can help us see a more complete picture of those we know --and those we don’t,” said Kristine Bretall, Community Engagement Manager at the Wood River Museum of History and Culture. “We created this project in order to dig deeper into histories that often go unseen.”

Bretall added that military service is a critical part of the community’s collective and individual past:

“The Sun Valley Resort and skiing history is inextricably connected to the United States Army 10th Mountain Division in World War II. Through this exhibit and an upcoming screening of a film on the 10th Mountain Division, we seek to highlight the dedication and influence of the military.”

The film, “Fire on the Mountain: The Story of the 10th Mountain Division,” will be screened at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at Ketchum’s Community Library.

The award-winning film explores the creation of the division, its grueling training and its World War II exploits.

10th Mountain Division warriors surprised the Germans on top of Italy’s Apennine Riva Ridge, that battle helping to end World War II a week earlier in Italy than the rest of Europe. Many of the mountain warriors returned to Sun Valley and other parts of the United States to pioneer the United States’ infant ski industry.

A reception will follow the film at the Wood River Museum of History and Culture.
