The National Ballet of Canada will perform for two nights in the Sun Valley Pavilion this summer.

The performances, presented by Ballet Sun Valley, will take place June 28-29. Different works will be performed each night. Tickets will go on sale on Feb. 1.

The National Ballet of Canada is led by artistic director Hope Muir. Founded 73 years ago in 1951, it has become one of the premier dance companies in the world with 70 dancers from 14 countries.

Muir, who was bornin Toronto and trained in the United Kingdom, spent 20 years on stage, including a stint at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. She joined Scottish Ballet in 2009, eventually becoming assistant artistic director before taking on a role as artistic director of Charlotte Ballet in 2017.

Since joining The National Ballet of Canada in 2022, Muir has secured important first partnerships with choreographers to cultivate new voices in dance. Her 2024 commission of “UtopVerse” by Canada’s William Yong was, for instance, the National Ballet’s first mainstage work by an Asian choreographer

In 2009 she assisted Crystal Pite on the creation of her award-winning “Emergence” for The National Ballet of Canada, helping to stage that work internationally.

The company, which performs at Toronto’s Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts,  traveled to London and Paris this past year in its first big tour since the COVID pandemic.

“I am delighted The National Ballet of Canada will be making its first appearance at Ballet Sun Valley this summer,” said Muir. “It is amazing to join the list of illustrious companies that have performed at this celebrated festival. I have curated a program that highlights both Canadian and international choreographers to be announced shortly. We look forward to sharing the incredible versatility ad creativity of our artists with Sun Valley audiences.”
