Check out the North Valley cross-country ski and snowshoe trails free of charge on Sunday.
The Blaine County Recreation District is staging its monthly Ski Free Day on Sunday, Feb. 12.
Adults and youth who haven’t been out on the trails yet this year are invited to break out the classic and skate skis or the snowshoes. Dogs are welcome, too, provided they stick to dog-friendly trails at Quigley Nordic, around SNRA headquarters, on the Harriman from SNRA to the bridge before Easley Hot Springs, Billy’s Bridge and Titus and Northwood across the highway from Galena Lodge.
The trails are well-covered and skiing well, although Quigley has been a little hard and icy since last week’s warmup. Conditions there could improve, however, if the Wood River Valley gets that inch of snow weather forecasters are dangling in front of us.
BCRD will hold two more Ski Free Days this year on Saturday, Feb. 22, and at a date to be determined in March.
Additionally, the BCRD will hold its popular Ski the Rails from Ketchum to Hailey on Saturday, Feb. 8, with aid stations set up along the way to fuel skiers with hot chocolate, muffins, brownies and more.
