The Liberty Theater Company is holding special readings of Henrik Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House” ahead of its performances of “A Doll’s House Part 2.”

The first will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at The Wylde Beet restaurant in Hailey. It will include food, drink and the show for $65.

The second will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 8 at The Liberty Theater in Hailey. The matinee costs $10—it’s free for season pass holders-- and viewers can follow it up with the play “A Doll’s House, Part 2” at 7 p.m. that night.

“A Doll’s House” which premiered in 1879 in Denmark, revolves around a woman’s journey of self-discovery as she realizes how stifling her life is and how neither husband or marriage are what she thought they were. It was controversial when it came out, as it challenged societal ideas about the roles of women in family. But it was at the forefront of the conversation about woman’s equality.

Those taking part in the reading are Rachel Aanestad, Courtney Loving, Ward Loving, Naomi McDougall Jones, Joel Vilinsky and Matt Musgrove.

“A Doll’s House, Part 2,” which premiered in 2017, picks up where “A Doll’s House” concludes. The Liberty Theater Company is presenting it Feb. 6-22 at The Liberty Theatre.
