Athletes from the SVSEF Alpine U16 USSS Team were among 160 athletes representing 10 ski clubs from across the Intermountain Division at Jackson Hole’s West Barron Speed Series this past weekend. Men and women each had three Super G races over the four-day event.

The series was open to second-year U14, U16, and U18 age categories.

SVSEF athletes held their own and then some, racing against some of their toughest competition in the region.

The men raced on Friday and Saturday, where Tucker Reimund took fourth, first, and third in the three respective races, ultimately taking the overall title for the series. Reimund was only .61 seconds off the win in race one, won race two by .66 seconds and was .62 seconds off the top step in race three.

Tucker Reimund is scheduled to compete in Italy this coming week at the Alpe Cimbra FIS Children Cup. He is one of six U16 athletes representing the United States.

As a team, the men took six of the 15 podium spots across the three races with Huxley Flood grabbing a third and fifth place in races one and three and Conway Selznick a fifth place in race two, less than a second off Reimund’s winning time.

Race one for the women was held on Sunday with Ava Huey taking fourth and teammate Elliot Leahy not far back with a top ten in seventh. Huey and Leahy swapped places in race two on Monday with Leahy in fourth and Huey in seventh.

Anna Taylor also raced to a top ten spot in race two. Race three saw two teammates flip again with Huey in fourth and Leahy in seventh.

“We couldn’t be more proud of how our athletes showed up at Jackson Hole,” said Nate Schwing, SVSEF U16 Head Coach. “Over the course of three Super G races per gender, they pushed hard, skied with confidence, and made huge strides. Their hard work is paying off, and the progress they’ve made is something to truly celebrate.”

The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation will host the 34th Annual Laura Flood Memorial Race in Sun Valley Feb. 7-9.
