A Community Ski Day promoting mental health will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at Bald Mountain.

The event is being organized by the Efinger family, who lost their son and brother Ky when he suffered a mental health episode while at the Salt Lake City International airport and crawled into the engine of a plane.

His family, who now live in Sun Valley, has since started a Love Like Ky Foundation to promote mental health in ski towns through movie showings and events like Sunday’s.

Sunday’s events include a Ski Vertical Contest, Sober Apres-Ski and Gear Raffle and Dance Party:

…Noon—Sign up for the Ski Vertical Contest, committing to ski or ride for a loved ones’ mental well-being. Track laps—the more laps, the more raffle tickets you earn. You can also earn raffle tickets by visiting the booths of such local mental health organizations as the Crisis hotline, MSCL and Flourish Foundation set up at the Warm Springs Lodge Plaza.

…2 p.m.—Enjoy a Sober Apres-Ski featuring uplifting music from a live DJ and non-alcoholic beverages, along with an opportunity to learn the Love Like Ky story.

…3 p.m. –Raffle tickets will be drawn for a chance to win ski gear from PEAK skis, Surefoot boot liners, Smith goggles and more.

“Ky’s legacy reminds us of the power of community support and mental well-being, and our mountain towns need help more than ever,” said Anneke Efinger, vice president of Love Like Ky.
