If temperatures keep approaching 60 degrees every day this week, the crew at Dollar Mountain won’t have to build a pond for their season-ending Pond Skim. Skiers and boarders will be able to waterski all the way down the mountain!
At any rate, Dollar Mountain’s Closing Day & Pond skim festivities will take place on Sunday, March 30. It’ll be a grand party to console those who might be suffering withdrawal from the World Cup Finals that have been going on all week at Sun Valley Resort.
Skiers and boarders are invited to dress in costume and let it rip as they descend the hill and try to skim across the pond. It’s the ultimate send-off to the season, although Bald Mountain is not slated to close until April 20.
Speed is your friend—let the force, or momentum, carry you across. Avoid leaning too far forward or back.
Participation is free, but advance registration is required. There will be no registration on the day of the event. A lift ticket or season pass is required to participate, and there will be prizes given out throughout the event.
The Kona Big Wave bar will be open and there’ll be giveaways, as well.
Participants can check in inside dollar lodge beginning at 9 a.m. The first group will have at it at 11 a.m.
Overflow parking is available in the Pavilion Lot with shuttles taking people to Dollar Lodge starting at 9 a.m.
