There’ll be no dancing around the maypole as the Europeans do to celebrate the first day of May—or summer, as they like to call it.
But there will be a chance to bike around the pump track loop and enjoy free tacos, beer and s’mores when the Blaine County Recreation District hosts May Day Play Day.
The BCRD will host a free family-friendly event at Quigley Trails Park in Hailey from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1.
People are encouraged to take their bikes for a spin around Quigley Trails Park’s flow trails, jump lines, pump tracks and skills features. Those who prefer to hoof it may do so by hiking the Quigley Loop Trail around the perimeter of the canyon.
The BCRD will serve up tacos, beer and non-alcoholic beverages and s’mores around the campfire. It’s suggested dogs stay at home so they don’t get caught up in the commotion.
Quigley Trails Park is the BCRD’s busiest trailhead given its access to the heart of the Wood River Valley. It offers 18 kilometers of groomed Nordic trails for classic and skate skiing in winter and the biking and hiking trails in summer, including access to the Silver Linings and Golden Hour loops.
