Weekends have become the only time many in Hailey and Bellevue dare venture into Ketchum this summer for errands, events, even hiking, given the long delays caused by road construction on Highway 75.

But some motorists found this past Saturday and Sunday that even weekends can get a little bogged down, however briefly.

On Saturday traffic slowed to a crawl at least a half-hour, thanks to a backhoe creeping down the road. No one could get around it since there was only one lane.

Sunday’s episode was even more interesting, and saved by three Good Samaritans, said REMAX Realtor Joanne Wetherell.

Traffic got bogged down about 12:30 p.m. after a tree fell across the road just north of the bridge over the Big Wood River.

Fortunately, Wetherell said, three men jumped out of their vehicles and rerouted traffic. One man pulled a chainsaw out of his RV, and together the three men cut up the tree and moved it from the road.

“The traffic had been backed up because of the tree falling over,” said Wetherell.

But it was soon in the business of running smoothly, she added, thanks to the three good Samaritans.

DID YOU KNOW?

A big dead tree fell in the woods—the burned woods--this past week above the new Imperial Trail reroute in Greenhorn, as well, despite there being no wind at the time. Fortunately, it did not fall across the path so no need for Good Samaritans!
