STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

Artist Rebecca Schultz will discuss her body of work exploring the Sawtooth National Recreation Area at 5 p.m. tonight—Thursday, Aug. 14—at the Sun Valley Museum of Art in Ketchum.

Schultz created a body of work titled “Mapping Materiality in the Sawtooths” as part of a residency co-sponsored by The Museum and the U.S. Forest Service.

Her soil chromatography prints, watercolors and drawings document her relationship-building with the landscape. They’re on view at the SNRA Visitor Center seven miles north of Ketchum through Aug. 27.

Schultz makes paintings and public artwork with a range of materials, including soil and plants, to cultivate wonder about the more-than-human world. Armed with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from the University of New Mexico, she has exhibited at institutions throughout the nation and had residencies in Canada, Iceland, Wyoming, California and Ireland.

The lecture is free. Attendees can reserve a seat at https://eyeonsunvalley.com/Story_Reader/13105/Ketchum-Weighs-Whether-to-Increase-Highway-to-Four-Lanes/.

Schultz will follow up tonight’s talk with a workshop on Painting with Soil Watercolors from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 in the SVMoA’s Hailey classroom at Second and Pine streets. The cost is $15 for members and $25 for nonmembers.
