STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

What does Sherlock Holmes and ballet have in common?

Ballet Idaho will present the world premiere of “Sherlock” in October.

And Ballet Idaho’s artistic director Garrett Anderson, associate artistic director Anne Mueller and principal artist Adrienne Kerr will be on hand to offer a look behind the scenes at the creative process in making the new ballet at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Ketchum’s Community Library.

The panel-style discussion will be moderated by Donna Delahorne, a former trustee of The Community Library who is a current board member of Ballet Idaho.

Mueller spent a week in June 2025 as an Artist-in-Residence with The Community Library at the Hemingway House and will share her experience working on the project during her residency. A few of the movements from the new piece will be demonstrated.

The new “Sherlock” was choreographed by choreographer Penny Saunders and will be followed with Act II of “Giselle,” where the title character is now a ghost living in a forest with the rest of the wilis enacting revenge on their living lovers.

Those who attend will be entered into a drawing to win two tickets to the world premiere at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at The Morrison Center for the Performing Arts in Boise. The drawing will include dinner for two at Chandler’s Steak House and a night at Hotel 43.

Performances of the ballet will also be offered at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10, and 2 p.m. Oct. 11 and 12.

Save your seat for the talk at https://thecommunitylibrary.libcal.com/event/14984896. Or, watch online at https://vimeo.com/event/5339931. The program will be archived for those who wish to watch later.
