Sun Valley Youth Hockey will host its high School/18U home tournament today through Sunday, Dec. 7, at Campion Ice House in Hailey and the Sun Valley Indoor Ice Rink.
The organization will kick off its partnership with Shoulder Check this afternoon and honor its 11 seniors Saturday night.
Shoulder Check’s mission is to help make kindness a contact sport. It’s been adopted by National Hockey League teams and high school hockey teams across the country. They have pledged a commitment to checking in with one another daily “because we might not always know who needs a hand, but we all have a hand to give.”
“Sun V alley Youth Hockey is committed to supporting this initiative and we will be doing a brief presentation about it between Sun Valley’s 3:15 and 4:45 p.m. games. Then we will have a pledge with all of the players on the ice and in the stands. I think it will be a very powerful moment,” said Nancy Fenn.
On Saturday between Sun Valley’s 3 and 4:30 p.m. games Sun Valley Hockey will honor 11 seniors—eight of whom are on the Varsity/18UA team and three of whom are on the JV 18UB team.
“Many of these players have been with Sun Valley Youth Hockey for 14 years,” said Fenn. “This is a great moment for us to honor our seniors and their families for their commitment and dedication to our organization and their sport.”
Teams playing in the tournament are from Sun Valley, McCall, Teton, Jackson, Bozeman, Missoula, Cache Valley and Billings.
Sun Valley’s 18UA/HS Varsity team will play Jackson at 4:45 p.m. today—Friday, Dec. 5. On Saturday, Dec. 6, it will play Cache Valley at 10:15 a.m. and McCall at 4:50 p.m. at Campion Ice House.
The Sun Valley 18UB/HS JV team will play Missoula at 3:15 p.m. today at Campion Ice House. It will play Jackson at 8:45 a.m. and Billings at 3 p.m. Saturday at Campion Ice House. It will play Teton at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at Campion Ice House.
Semi-finals will be played at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, at Campion Ice House and at 9 a.m. Sunday at Sun Valley Indoor Ice rink.
The JV Finals will be held at noon Sunday and the Varsity finals at 1:30 p.m. at Campion Ice House.
