A Christmas concert with country pizzazz!
That’s what you will get when Sun Valley Opera and Broadway presents “A Country Christmas Celebration & Concert” staring The Hurdy Gurdy Girls from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at The Argyros in Ketchum.
The celebration will kick off in the lobby of The Argyros with the Colla Voce Carolers and photo ops with Santa, as well as a spread of homemade Christmas cookies and other sweets and hors d’oeuvres donated by The Village Market. There’ll be wine for adults and hot chocolate for youngsters.
At 4 p.m. The Hurdy Gurdy Girls will take the stage, along with guest star Kenny Ward, to play traditional Christmas songs with a country twang, classic country selections and even a few novelty favorites.
The Hurdy Gurdy Girls, an all-girl string band from Hailey, were inspired by the petticoats, pistols, music, miners and dancing of the early 1900s. Hurdy gurdy girls lived a rugged life in the untamed gem-laden mountains of Idaho, entertaining miners with music and dancing.
The modern-day Hurdy Gurdy Girls, formed 10 years ago, features Annie Maude on fiddle, Natalie Rose on stand-up bass and Sweet Joy Lee from Tennessee on guitar.
Tickets to the Country Christmas Celebration are $75 for those wishing a bistro table, $65 for adults in the tier seats, $25 for teens and free for children 12 and under. Tickets are available at https://www.sunvalleyopera.com/, at https://ci.ovationtix.com/35937 or by calling 818-577-7811.
