STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

Sun Valley Nordic didn’t let the year 2025 end without getting open.

The scenic Nordic center with 40 kilometers of trails opened on New Year’s Eve with skate skiing only available on the Practice Loop, Putt-Putt and the White Clouds Loop.

Baby steps with the hope that additional snow this weekend might provide the depth to set classic tracks and get more terrain open.

Snowshoeing is also available on Glenn’s Loop and Bridges Trail.

Sun Valley Resort, meanwhile was able to remove a large tree that fell across Gun Tower Lane leading to Seattle Ridge and blow a copious amount of snow on Lower Broadway Run so it could open Seattle Ridge and the Bowls this past week. The snowmaking has enabled the resort to provide a lift back up the mountain on the long Broadway chair leading up to the Roundhouse.

So, Bald Mountain is largely open despite the challenges that Mother Nature has thrown at Western ski resorts this winter.
