Caro Pierotto and Grecco Buratto grew up a few miles from each other in Porto Alegre, which sits near Brazil’s border with Argentina and Uruguay. But their paths never crossed until the two met at a concert Pierotto’s band was putting on with two other Brazilian bands in Los Angeles.

Since, they have written, produced and recorded more than 70 songs together. And they will perform some of their favorites at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the Bailey Studio of The Argyros Center for the Performing Arts in Hailey.

While The Argyros won’t have a beach, the evening will feel warm, thanks to feel-good Bossa nova classics like “The Girl from Ipanema,” a Bossa nova version of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” Stevie Nicks’ “Landslide” and Pierotto and Buratto’s soothing heartfelt Bossa rhythms whose stories reflect their life experiences and belief in the healing power of music.

“We’ll do renditions of songs that opened the door for Brazilian music internationally and songs that we’ve co-written together,” said Pierotto. “Some in French, some in Spanish, English and Portuguese. So, a little bit of everything. We’re showcasing the intimacy of it all since there’s just two of us on our guitars.”

Pierotto’s family moved from the north of Italy to Brazil around 1875, eager to grab some of the land that Brazil was giving away to populate its south.

“We also have a lot of Germans who moved there,” said Pierotto. “It’s a little more on the cold side there—it has mountains, not palm trees and beaches. And, sometimes, snow. One of the main exports of the area has been beef—cowboys and ranches were big there a hundred years ago. In fact, the Brazilian barbecue, or the churrasco, comes from our state.”

Pierotto’s family did not work a ranch, however; they made shoes. And she was primed to follow her father and uncle into the family shoemaking business when she realized she was just playing the supporting actress to her father’s story.

So, she moved to Los Angeles where she had studied at Santa Monica College. And, when she found herself homesick for the flavors of home, she and a Mexican American friend put together a Brazilian band named Marbella. As the band gained traction, singing at such venues as The Roxy, The Mint and the House of Blues, she recorded an album with a Latin Grammy-winning engineer.

The album “Volta ao Mundo” was shortlisted for the American Grammy’s that year.

Grecco Buratto, who attended the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, is a Latin Grammy-nominated producer in his own right.

“We met in 2013—I was looking for a producer. As we  started talking, we realized we were from the same part of Brazil,” said Pierotti. “In fact, Grecco’s father knew my father and my uncle and we had a lot of friends in common from Brazil. We started seeing each other, but we made pact that we weren’t going to work together to not let relationship issues mess up the music. That lasted one whole year and now we have five albums together.”

Grecco is a singer-songwriter, poet and guitarist who tours with such big name artists as Lionel Richie, Shakira, Enrique Iglesias and Sergio Mendes and has recorded with such artists as Backstreet Boys, Boyz II Men, Gloria Estefan, Dionne Warwick and Earth Wind and Fire.

He’s written and recorded music for such TV shows as “Dawson’s Creek” and “Everwood,” as well as “Miami Vice,” and “First Daughter.

His first solo album “Essas Coisas Todas” was one of the top 10 best Latin albums of 2014, according to L.A. Times and Rolling Stones magazine critic Ernesto Lechner.

“We decided to put this show together to celebrate our life together, sing songs together, do renditions of favorite songs of ours,” said Pierotto. “Grecco’s schedule doesn’t allow us to tour together much, but we’re happy when it does because it’s an amazing celebration of Brazilian music around the world, a celebration of love and life together.”

The couple likes to invite the audience in by telling them the inspiration behind the songs.

One of the songs they will sing Wednesday is a recently recorded single that Grecco wrote 20 years ago. Translated “Lady Inspiration,” or “Queen of Inspiration,” it talks about the muse of when inspiration strikes.

“I was playing a show in Chandler, Ariz., warming up backstage, and Caro said, ‘I love this song. Did you just write it?’ ” he recounted. “We decided to do it that evening and on the spot she wrote this beautiful introduction that became a big hook on the song, and we’ve been performing it since.”

The couple also likes to tell the story of “The Girl from Ipanema,” which opened the door for Brazilian music around the world. The 1965 Grammy winner for Record of the Year, it was written by Brazilian musician Tom Jobin, who was inspired by a 17-year-old girl who strolled past the Veloso bar-café every day to the oceanside.

Jobin is considered the father of Bossa nova, a musical style that blends samba with jazz.

“Ipanema Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil. And it’s the most famous,” said Pierotto. “When you’re facing the ocean, if you look to the right, over the mountain there’s the big Christ statue from Brazil.”

While they love sharing the Brazilian Bossa nova with the world, for now Pierotto and Grecco are firmly planted in Los Angeles.

“One of the things we love about LA is the diversity, the many cultures, the food from everywhere, the music from everywhere, all the ethnicity,” said Pierotto. “And, obviously, the weather is beautiful, too. We get spoiled. Our careers were unveiled here so we love being here.”
