Fly fishing legend Joe Humphreys, considered by many to be the best fly fisherman of our time, will appear tonight—Thursday, June 20—at the Sun Valley Opera House.

Humphrey will share a documentary about his life titled “Live the Stream: The Story of Joe Humphreys.”

Doors open at 6 for a chance to meet Humphreys with the film starting at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $15 at the door of the Opera House or available in advance at https://sunvalley.ticketfly.com/event/1858849.

The screening is being sponsored by Silver Creek Outfitters and Patagonia.

“It’s truly an honor to welcome Joe Humphreys to Sun Valley and to bring this remarkable film here for our fly fishing friends to enjoy,” said Terry Ring, owner of Silver Creek Outfitters. “You’re in for a treat, hearing Joe’s stories about his lifelong passion for fly fishing while you pick up some tips from the wisdom he’s gathered on the rivers he’s fished through the years.”

Humphreys, now 90, has shared his love of the sport with hundreds of people, including former President Jimmy Carter, basketball coach Bobby Knight and former Vice President Dick Cheney.

He directed the angling program at the Pennsylvania State university and has lectured throughout the United States. He’s taught kids and he’s taught veterans.

He’s set fly fishing records, and he’s been a member of the U.S. Fly Fishing Team at World Championships in 1989, 1990 and 1992. And he spearheaded conservation to preserve and enhance fly fishing habitat along Pennsylvania’s Spring Creek.

He’s also authored numerous books and articles on his beloved sport, including “Trout Tactics” and “On the Trout Stream.”

Filmmakers Lucas and Meigan Bell will also attend the screening.
